When you start a trip: your email address and your shopping list. That's it. No account, no password, no tracking pixels, no ad networks.
Your email is used to rate-limit the free tier (one shopping trip a day, more via referrals) and, if you tick the box, to email you your trip results and Nest referral updates. We store a one-way hash of it alongside your trip; the address itself is kept only when you've opted in, only so we can send those emails, and expires after a year of inactivity. Untick the box and we keep just the hash. Your shopping list is processed by our own research engines to build your trip report.
We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or send marketing email you didn't ask for. Trip pages are unlisted (the link is the key) and expire after 90 days.
Your Nest code is derived from a one-way hash of your email, so it contains no readable personal information. When a friend uses your link, we count the referral against that code; we never see or store who referred whom by name.
Trip results may contain our referral links. Clicking one tells the retailer we referred you; that's how Birdie stays free. See the disclosure on every trip page.
